What are Inverted Nipples?

Inverted nipples are very common, it lies flat against the areola. It is also known as retracted nipples. It occurs when the nipples don’t look normal and there may be a depression at the center of the areola. Inverted nipples make it difficult to breastfeed. In rare cases, this may also occur in men.


Procedure for Inverted Nipples

  • Initially, discussing plans with the patients and marking will be made on the area of surgery. A combined decision will be made before the surgery.
  • Photographs will be taken of the specific area (patient’s identity will be not revealed)
  • As per the patient’s comfort Anesthesia will be given. Subsequently, antibiotics will be given for a smooth procedure, and to reduce pain & anxiety.
  • During the operation, a tiny incision is made on the edge of the nipple.
  • The process is followed by a gentle releasing the fibers within the nipple which causes the inward pull. Afterward, the nipple is set free and special sutures are made around the base of the nipple.
